FIELD: dental care.
SUBSTANCE: inventions group relates to spherical particles of silicon dioxide and/or silicate and their use in compositions for dental care. The proposed silica and/or silicate particles are characterized by: (i) a median particle size d50 ranging from 1 to 5 microns; (ii) particle size d95 less than or equal to 8 microns; (iii) oil absorption ranging from 40 to 100 cm3/100 g; (iv) a bulk density after compaction ranging from 20 to 60 lb/ft3; (v) a sphericity coefficient (S80) greater than or equal to 0.9; (vi) water absorption (AbC) ranging from 55 to 115 cm3/100 g; and (vii) a BET surface area (specific surface area determined by the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method) ranging from 25 to 100 m2/g. Also provided are dentifrice and dentifrice compositions containing the aforementioned spherical particles.
EFFECT: small particle size, narrow particle size distribution and extremely spherical particle morphology provide effective tubule occlusion while maintaining the cleaning performance of the dentifrice composition due to the low oil absorption value of the particles and high bulk density after compaction.
