FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for making highly porous diatomite sorbent based on silicon dioxide with a specific surface area over 350 m2/g and a hierarchical pore structure. Produced product has initial macroporous diatomite structure and secondary structure of narrow mesopores with diameter of 2.5–4.5 nm. Method of producing includes treatment of diatomite under hydrothermal conditions at 120 °C for 48 hours in an aqueous solution containing NaOH and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide in weight ratio of diatomite : water : NaOH : CTAB = 1:50.4:0.18–0.45:0.24, followed by filtration and annealing in the atmosphere air at 540 °C for 10 hours.

EFFECT: invention enables to obtain a multifunctional material which can be used both as a sorbent and as a carrier for catalysts and a base for different nanomaterials.
