FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing propyl propionate in a propyl alcohol medium using ethylene and carbon monoxide on dicobalt octacarbonyl using a nitrogen-containing organic base at high pressure and temperature, where carbon oxide, ethylene and hydrogen are fed into the reactor such that the ethylene partial pressure is 1.0–1.6 MPa, hydrogen – 0.1–1.0 MPa, carbon monoxide – 5.0–7.0 MPa, followed by heating of reactor to temperature of 140 °C and holding the reaction mixture for 3–15 minutes, cooling, releasing excess pressure and releasing propyl propionate.
EFFECT: present invention aims at developing a method of producing propyl propionate in order to achieve maximum selectivity to propyl propionate – 90–99 %, as well as maximum conversion of ethylene of 97–99 %.
