SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the chemical industry, namely to a method for producing methyl propionate, which is used, for example, in the paint industry as a solvent or in the chemical industry as a raw material for the production of propanol by hydrogenolysis. The method for obtaining methyl propionate is carried out in the environment of methyl alcohol using ethylene and carbon monoxide. Pyridine and dicobalt octacarbonyl are additionally added to the reaction mixture as a catalyst. The supply of carbon monoxide and ethylene to the reactor is carried out in such a way that the partial pressure of ethylene is 1.6-2.5 MPa, carbon monoxide - 7.5-8.4 MPa. After the feedstock is supplied, heating occurs until the temperature in the reactor reaches 140 °C and the reaction mixture is kept for up to 15 minutes. After this time, cooling occurs, excess pressure is released, and methyl propionate is released.

EFFECT: increasing the efficiency of the method for producing methipropionate.
