SUBSTANCE: invention relates to control method for internal combustion engine. Variable compression degree mechanism (5) is multi-link piston-crank mechanism consisting of multiple links connecting piston 4 and crankshaft (6). Combustion load acts in the downward direction of piston (4) pressing. Accordingly, response rate at change of compression degree towards low compression ratio is higher than speed of response at change of compression degree towards high compression ratio. Therefore, the response speed towards the low compression ratio is set higher than the response speed towards the high compression ratio. At that, change towards low compression ratio changes with response rate higher than response speed for high compression rate side without compliance of response rate on high compression side.

EFFECT: accordingly, it is possible to suppress deterioration of response.
