SUBSTANCE: invention refers to dentistry and can be used for effective block of the lower alveolar nerve accompanying an anesthesia of the lower jaw. Method for measuring the width of a mandible ramus, characterized by using a device comprising an arched body with an extraoral and intraoral portion, the extraoral portion is made in the form of plate-like arc 1 with an end section with groove 3, on the outer bend of the housing there is a stationary annular finger grip 2 installed, and the intraoral portion comprises measuring rod 7 with a graduated scale and holder 8, wherein the rod end portion is made in the form of saddle 9, wherein rod 7 is movably installed along through guide channel 5 in housing 4 and is retained by screw retainer 6 and additionally provided with elastic element 10 resting between rod end seat 9 and housing 4, for this, end section of arch 1 with groove 3 of extraoral part is fixed on back edge of mandible branch in area of maximum concavity, after which graduated rod 7 is placed in oral cavity, pulling back behind holder 8, wherein rod end seat 9 is placed on front edge of mandible branch in area of maximum concavity and thus fixing rod 7 in preset position by means of retainer 6, device is removed from oral cavity, mandibular branch width is recorded, by which optimal depth of needle immersion is calculated and safe mandibular anesthesia is performed.

EFFECT: use of the present invention determines individual anatomical and topographic features of mandibular branch width, which are taken into account in mandibular anesthesia, which is necessary to increase efficiency and safety of anesthesia associated with excluding injury of mandibular neurovascular bundle.
