FIELD: medical equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to applicators having end caps with gripping elements for engagement of a surgical mesh. Applicator for dispensing surgical fasteners comprises a casing, a drive, an elongated shaft, a cap, a surgical fastener delivery opening and gripping elements. Drive is connected to the casing. Elongated rod passes from the casing. Cap is attached to the distal end of the elongated rod. Cap includes a lower side; upper side; lower distal edge adjacent to lower side; and a distal end surface, which has an inclination proximally from a lower distal edge to an upper side of the cap. Surgical fastener delivery window is formed on an inclined distal end surface. Inclined distal end surface extends continuously along the perimeter of the surgical fastener delivery window. Gripping elements protrude distally from inclined distal end surface. Gripping elements have textured surface selected from group consisting of corrugated surface, mat surface and stepped surface.

EFFECT: invention is characterized by that the applicator can be used in performing open surgical procedures for recovery for the treatment of abdominal wall hernias.
