FIELD: ophthalmic devices.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ophthalmic devices, preferably to silicone hydrogel contact lenses, which have a structural configuration that creates a gradient of water content. Disclosed is a hydrated silicone hydrogel contact lens having a layered structural configuration: containing a low-water silicone hydrogel core (or bulk material), completely closed with a layer of water-enriched (for example, having water content exceeding 80 %) hydrogel, completely or mainly not containing silicon.
EFFECT: disclosed hydrated silicone hydrogel contact lens has high oxygen permeability, which is required to provide a healthy state of the eye cornea, and a soft, water-enriched smooth surface to provide comfort when worn.
