FIELD: means for oral care.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a composition for reducing the number of microorganisms in the oral cavity, which cause plaque, gingivitis, inflammation of gums or unpleasant odor from mouth, having pH up to 5 and containing: SAS based on block copolymers of polyethylene oxide and polypropylene oxide selected from poloxamer 108, poloxamer 188 and mixtures thereof; a water-insoluble biologically active agent which is a bioactive essential oil which is a mixture of thymol, eucalyptole, menthol and methyl salicylate; at least one solvent suitable for oral administration. Also disclosed are a method of treating plaque, gingivitis, gum disease or bad breath and a method of reducing the number of microorganisms in the oral cavity, providing for application of the effective amount of the said composition on oral tissues of a mammal.
EFFECT: group of inventions provides improved bioavailability of the biologically active agent and, consequently, improved bactericidal activity.
