FIELD: tobacco industry.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is tobacco material, water content in which is at least about 40 % with respect to total weight, having storage stability for at least about 25 days, wherein storage stability is defined as total amount of aerobic microorganisms less than about 3000000 CFU/g. Also disclosed is a method of treating tobacco material to improve storage stability, wherein method includes producing tobacco material, water content in which is at least about 40 % with respect to total weight, and treatment of tobacco material with process pressure of at least about 30000 psi (about 207 MPa) to obtain tobacco material treated with high pressure, wherein the tobacco material treated with high pressure has storage stability for at least about 25 days, and storage stability is defined as total amount of aerobic microorganisms less than about 3000000 CFU/g.
EFFECT: disclosed is cold pasteurisation of tobacco material under high pressure.
