Disclosed is a strain of Lactobacillus plantarum LC27, deposited under access number KCCM 11801P and having antioxidant activity, beta-glucuronidase suppressing activity, activity suppressing production of lipopolysaccharides (LPS), as well as activity inducing expression of tight contact protein. What is also presented is a culture of Lactobacillus plantarum LC27 and a pharmaceutical composition for reducing the severity, preventing or treating a liver disease, containing a pharmaceutically effective amount of said strain or its culture. Said pharmaceutical composition can be used in a method for reducing severity, preventing or treating a liver disease, as well as for preparing a medicament for reducing severity, preventing or treating liver disease.
