SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to methods of protecting normal tissues from high toxicity/sensitization to chemotherapeutic drugs induced by high blood glucose levels. Disclosed are methods (versions) of treating hyperglycemia in a subject undergoing chemotherapy, or eliminating sensitization to chemotherapy associated with high glucose levels, wherein methods include identifying a subject undergoing chemotherapy and receiving a hyperglycemia-inducing agent, and short-term fasting (STS) or diet abstinence (FMD) diet assignment to a subject, for a period of time from 3 to 10 days, where the hyperglycemic inducing agent is selected from a group, consisting of rapamycin, steroid medicinal preparations, including dexamethasone, and their combinations.
EFFECT: group of inventions provides reducing side effects associated with chemotherapy.
