SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medicine and concerns a method for the treatment of a gastrointestinal inflammatory disease selected from a group consisting of Crohn's disease (CD), ulcerative colitis (UC), irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease, microscopic colitis and Behcet's disease, including the introduction of a fasting-mimicking diet (FMD) to a subject having the specified gastrointestinal inflammatory disease, for a period of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 days. The group of inventions also concerns the use of a diet kit for the administration of a fasting-mimicking diet for the treatment of a gastrointestinal inflammatory disease selected from a group consisting of Crohn's disease (CD), ulcerative colitis (UC), irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease, microscopic colitis, and Behcet's disease, while the kit contains a set of rations for a fasting-mimicking diet (FMD), and instructions for the administration of a diet kit to a subject for the treatment of the specified gastrointestinal inflammatory disease, including an administration regimen.
