FIELD: biochemistry.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to methods for preventing formation, as well as destruction or eradication of biofilms of gram-positive bacteria. Disclosed are a method of preventing, destroying or eradication of a biofilm containing one or more Staphylococcus and Streptococcus bacteria, and a method of preventing or treating an infection associated with biofilm in a subject, including one or more Staphylococcus and Streptococcus bacteria. Methods involve contacting the biofilm with a composition comprising an altered lytic enzyme comprising a SH-3 PlySs2 domain comprising the amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO: 4 or a version thereof, having at least 80 % identity with SEQ ID NO: 4 and effective for binding Staphylococcus and Streptococcus in biofilm, and a catalytic domain which is a CHAP domain of lysine of streptococcal or staphylococcus phages.
EFFECT: inventions allow eliminating not only mature biofilms, but also preventing de novo biofilm formation on the surface of devices, implants and separation membranes.
