FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of making flat metal products, in particular rolls from a strip, in endless or semi-infinite mode, in which metal product is continuously supplied to rolling mill, which contains, in general, at least 4 stands, in which rolling mill stands are successively rough draft stands and finishing stands. Provided is variation of thickness on the move. At least rollers speed of the first stand of rolling mill and their gap are not changed during thickness change on the move. Transition from current thickness to subsequent thickness is performed by application of new adjustment of parameters, for example gap between rolls, speed of rolls and interstand tension, to all rolling stands involved in change of thickness on the move. Number of stands involved in change of thickness on the move, starting from the last stand of finishing stands, is obtained taking into account distribution of rolling force of each stand, so that new distribution of forces caused by thickness variation does not lead to any output of the rolling force of any stand from acceptable tolerance range.

EFFECT: higher reliability, stability of process, simplified control of stands, reduced wear and improved quality of finished strip.
