SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to portable device for treatment of textile product. Portable device for textile product treatment contains heated sole intended for contact with textile product, for treatment of textile product, image sensor for capturing an image of a textile article to be processed, lighting system for illuminating a portion of a textile article when capturing said image and a control unit configured to execute a sequence of operations stored in said portable textile processing device, using captured image as input data for said sequence of operations to obtain classification of textile article, and controlling at least one operating parameter of the portable textile processing device based on said classification, wherein image sensor and control unit are built-in into portable device for processing textile article, wherein image sensor comprises active surface, sensitive to light, which is oriented relative to surface of heated sole with absolute value of orientation angle, which is in range from 15 to 70 degrees, and / or the lighting system comprises a light source oriented relative to the heated sole surface in contact with the textile article, with absolute value of orientation angle, which is in range from 15 to 70 degrees, as well as technical result is achieved by a method of controlling such portable device.
