SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of garments care, in particular, to the portable garment care device. Portable device comprises bottom surface (BS) intended for contact with textile article (TXT). Portable device comprises an image sensor for capturing an image of a textile article and a lighting system for illuminating a part of the textile article when said image is captured. Portable device also has a control unit for performing the sequence of operations stored in the portable device using the captured image as input data of the said sequence of operations to obtain classification of the textile product. Image sensor and the control unit are integrated into the portable device. Image sensor has an active surface which is sensitive to light, which is oriented as compared to said bottom surface (BS), with absolute value of orientation angle, which is in range of 15–70 degrees; and/or lighting system has a light source oriented in comparison to said bottom surface (BS), with absolute value of orientation angle, which is in range of 15–70 degrees.
