FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of carbon quantum dots. Method involves preparation of a reaction mass and its heating. Reaction mass is prepared from oxalic acid, 4-R-benzene-1,2-diamine, where R = H, NO2, COOH, and water in molar ratio of oxalic acid: 4-R-benzene-1,2-diamine = 1:0.8–1. Method includes synthesis of carbon quantum dots in reaction mass at 200 °C for 6 hours to obtain a solution containing carbon quantum dots and exhibiting red luminescence, which is then lyophilised to obtain a dry powder of carbon quantum dots.

EFFECT: environmentally safe production of carbon quantum dots with high optical characteristics, which can be used for fluorescent molecular and cell imaging.
