FIELD: electrical equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in electrical engineering for determination of mechanical loads on wires/ground wires of overhead transmission lines, detection of overhead power transmission lines with icing and snow sticking on them, control of wires strands/ground wires defects. Method of monitoring technical condition of overhead power transmission lines consists in measurement of wire or ground wire rotation angle by means of wire/ground wire rotation angle determining module and further analysis of obtained data in personal computer. At that, monitoring device, including wire strand/ ground wire rotation angle determining module, rigidly installed on wire / ground wire of overhead line in close proximity to suspension point of wire/ground wire to support and transmits data on angle of rotation of wire/ground wire by transceiver of monitoring device to collection point and data processing, including a data collection and processing point transceiver and a personal computer, on which the technical state of the overhead line is determined based on the known geometric parameters of the overhead power transmission lines and the current rotation angle.

EFFECT: technical result is high accuracy of determining mechanical loads, information on the current state of overhead power transmission lines and simple installation and launch of monitoring systems implementing this method.
