SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a hybrid element which generates an aerosol, a method for making said aerosol and an aerosol-generating system. Hybrid element generating an aerosol for use in an aerosol-generating article, wherein the hybrid element, generating an aerosol comprises a fluid retention material for holding aerosol-forming liquid and a solid substrate, forming aerosol, located near material for liquid retention, wherein the liquid retention material and the solid aerosol-forming substrate are located at least partially in one longitudinal position of the aerosol-generating hybrid element, note here that fluid retaining material at least partially encloses solid substrate forming aerosol. In such a hybrid element, the aerosol-forming liquid contained in the liquid retention material, can, for example, continuously flow or be drawn into a solid aerosol-forming substrate.

EFFECT: it is necessary to heat only a solid aerosol-forming substrate or areas of a solid substrate, which can reduce the amount of energy required in the aerosol-generating system; besides, providing aerosol-forming liquid can substantially prolong a session of consumption of an aerosol-generating element or an aerosol-generating article containing such an element.
