SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to an aerosol-generating article, an aerosol-generating system containing such an article, as well as a method of making an aerosol-generating article. Aerosol-generating article (10; 110) comprises: aerosol-generating substrate rod (12) extending from a proximal end of the rod to a far end of the rod upstream of the proximal end of the rod; downstream section (14) at a location downstream of aerosol-generating substrate rod (12), and wrapper (70) surrounding at least aerosol-generating substrate rod (12), wherein wrap (70) comprises base material for wrapping. At least treated part (72) of wrapper (70) passing between the near end of the rod and the far end of the rod contains an anti-ignition composition containing one or more anti-ignition compounds. Thus, treated part (72) of wrapper (70) has a total basis weight exceeding that of the main wrapping material. Treated portion (72) extends over at least 90 percent of the surface area of the outer surface of the aerosol-generating substrate.

EFFECT: preventing charring/burning when heating the wrapper and the underlying aerosol-forming substrate, and as a result, increasing aerosol delivery when the article is heated.
