FIELD: water and air purification technology.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing a catalyst and to a method of treating waste water with an industrial method of producing propylene oxide in the presence of a catalyst, which is obtained using said method. Method comprises: (i) preparing a mixture of one or more monomers of aromatic alcohols and/or non-aromatic monomers, a solvent, a polymerisation catalyst, a cross-linking agent, suspension stabilizer and one or more metal salts under conditions sufficient for production of polymer balls alloyed with one or more metals or their salts; (ii) carbonisation, activation and subsequent reduction of polymer beads obtained at step (i) to obtain porous carbon beads doped with metal nanoparticles; (iii) chemical vapor deposition in the presence of a carbon source on the metal nanoparticles doped with porous carbon beads obtained at step (ii), obtaining metal-impregnated porous carbon balls doped with metal nanoparticles, containing carbon nanofibres; and (iv) alloying porous carbon beads doped with metal nanoparticles with an oxidizer, containing carbon nanofibres obtained at step (iii), by mixing said balls with aqueous solutions containing an oxidant, at temperature in range from 40 to 60 °C for period of 4 to 12 hours, wherein after mixing, the catalyst is filtered and dried.
EFFECT: unexpectedly in the present invention, a specific method of producing a catalyst for use in wet oxidation methods, which enables to purify streams of waste water obtained in propylene oxide production methods, in milder conditions and with extremely beneficial reduction of chemical oxygen demand (COD).
