SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to therapy, rheumatology, and can be used to determine a high risk of carotid atherosclerosis in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and improved early diagnostic technique. Taking into account age of 50 years and more, sex, age of debut of rheumatoid arthritis from 45 years and more, body weight index from 25 kg/m² and more, number of painful joints from 20 and more, glucocorticoids intake, presence of rheumatoid factor seropositivity, alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase level of 25 units/l and more, protein loss in urine of 0.1 g/d or more, glomerular filtration rate from 60 ml/min/1.73 m² or less. Each parameter, if any, is assigned value of 1 point and a sum of points is calculated. If the value of k is equal to 4 or more, a high risk of atherosclerosis and a need for additional ultrasonic examination of carotid arteries are determined. If k is less than 4, a control examination of the patient with repeated determination of the total score in 1 year is performed.

EFFECT: method enables determining a high risk of carotid atherosclerosis in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, forming groups for obligatory ultrasonic examination of carotid arteries.
