FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: method of invention relates to production of silicon carbide ceramic articles, including large-size ceramic articles, having improved operational characteristics, including at high temperatures for use in various industries. Proposed method comprises preparation of charge from silicon carbide powders with binder, rolling, pneumatic milling of obtained mass, moulding billets by mouth-pressing method, cutting into pieces of required length and subsequent coking annealing. After coking firing, articles are impregnated with colloidal-graphite alcohol solution and silicated by impregnation with silicon melt or by holding in silicon vapours in high-temperature chamber. According to the method of the invention large-size heaters, crucibles, funnels, heat exchangers, pipes for transfer of abrasive-containing suspensions and aggressive liquids, and so forth can be made.

EFFECT: technical result consists in increasing the size of silicon carbide products with high mechanical strength, thermal shock resistance, density of 2.5–2.9 g/cm3, high technological effectiveness and profitability of their manufacture, wider field of use of silicon carbide ceramic.
