FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to structural materials of silicon carbide applicable in oil-producing and oil-processing equipment (oil pump and submersible unit seals, slider bearers, etc.) and in some other industries. Intermediates are moulded from a composition consisting of a fine filler representing a mixture of a silicone-inert compound(s) at the technological parameters of silicon impregnation and an active element(s) and/or compound(s) producing high-melt carbides and/or silicides, and/or ternary compounds in a reaction with it, and a temporary binding agent; the intermediates are burned at temperature to remove volatiles completely from the binding agent and siliconised. The silicone-inert powder compounds (silicon carbide, boron carbide or zirconium boride) and active elements (carbon, molybdenum, titanium carbide or molybdenum carbide) are taken at a particle size of no more than 40 mcm. The silicon impregnation is conducted by a vapour-liquid-phase method in vacuum in silicone vapour at the final temperature of 1,600-1,700°C by the silicone vapour impregnation with condensate.
