FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to determination of purity of precious stones. Disclosed method involves using a computerized system for determining purity of a diamond, which includes an optical image obtaining device, a processor module and an output module, which are functionally connected together. First, a plurality of images of the top view of the diamond with different depths of the focus, corrected by the refractive index of the diamond, are obtained through the optical image producing device. Then defects in diamond body are detected in processor module. Defect is detected by contrast variations of brightness levels of pixels compared to adjacent pixel in each obtained image from said plurality of images from top view. Further, a purity category is assigned based on the penalty points function, after which the output module provides a signal indicating the purity category assigned at the previous step.
EFFECT: technical result consists in enabling reproducibility of evaluation of purity of diamond.
