FIELD: medical equipment.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates, in general, to nodes ensuring needle safety and safe intravenous catheters (hereinafter – IVC) and, in particular, to a safe IVC, in which a tip of a needle is automatically closed after the needle is removed to prevent an unintentional prick with the tip of the needle. A catheter connecting unit with a catheter tube, a needle with a needle sleeve and a needle protective device are proposed. The protective device is made with the possibility of being located, at least partially, inside the inner space of a catheter sleeve and held there by mechanical engagement between them. After removing the needle from the catheter sleeve, the protective device is detached from the catheter sleeve and attached over the tip of the needle to protect a user from accidental prick. The protective device contains an inclined end section having such a length and width so that to hold the tip of the needle inside the space holding the tip behind the inclined end section.
EFFECT: claimed invention provides an increase in the safety of an intravenous catheter.
