FIELD: medical equipment.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medical technology, namely to applicator tools and methods that use bendable shafts for installing surgical fasteners. The applicator tool for supplying surgical fasteners contains an elongated shaft, a handle, a drive, and a flexible connection. The elongated stem has a proximal stem section and a distal stem section. The proximal section of the trunk contains an outer shell, and the distal section of the trunk contains a segmented element located inside the distal end of the outer shell. The segmented member is movable between a straight configuration and a curved configuration. In a second embodiment, an applicator tool for supplying surgical fasteners comprises an elongated shaft, a handle, an actuator, and a flexible joint. The elongated stem has a proximal stem section and a distal stem section. The proximal section of the trunk contains an outer shell, and the distal section of the trunk contains a segmented element located inside the distal end of the outer shell. The segmented element contains a number of separate, independent links that are flexibly interconnected to allow the segmented element to move between a straight configuration and a curved configuration. A hernioplasty method comprising introducing a mesh into the patient's abdominal cavity; placement of the mesh over the hernia; providing an applicator tool for supplying surgical fasteners, wherein the applicator instrument comprises a handle and an elongated shaft extending from the distal end of the handle, the elongated shaft having a proximal barrel section and a distal barrel section, while the proximal barrel section contains an outer shell, and the distal section the trunk contains a segmented element located inside the distal end of the outer shell, while the segmented element can move between a straight configuration and a curved configuration; providing actuators on a handle that is connected to the outer sheath to move the outer sheath in proximal and distal axial directions; providing a bendable connection within an outer shell that extends from the handle to the segmented member, the bendable connection having a proximal end connected to the actuator and a distal end secured to the segmented member; placement of surgical fasteners in the elongated shaft; introduction of the distal section of the trunk of the elongated trunk into the abdominal cavity of the patient when the segmented element is in a straight configuration; moving the actuator in the first direction to move the outer shell in the proximal direction along the axis in order to expose a portion of the segmented member and apply tension to the flexible joint to move the segmented member into a curved configuration; location of the most distal end of the distal section of the trunk close to the mesh; feeding at least one of the surgical fastener from the most distal end of the distal section of the trunk through the mesh and into the patient's abdominal wall.
EFFECT: use of inventions provides mesh attachment for hernioplasty.
