Furthermore, the invention relates to a pharmaceutical or veterinary composition which comprises a dipeptidylpeptidase-4 inhibitor selected from a group comprising saxagliptin and sitagliptin for use in the local treatment and/or prevention of the above-mentioned diseases.

EFFECT: technical result is the use of dipeptidylpeptidase-4 inhibitors or of pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate thereof for producing a medicinal agent for local ophthalmological treatment and/or for preventing neurodegenerative retinal diseases, in particular for local ophthalmological treatment and/or prevention of retinal damage in the early stages of neurodegenerative retinal diseases and associated microvascular or retinal damage.
