SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a brewing unit for preparing a brewed beverage from a serving capsule and to a machine for preparing drinks. A brewing unit to brew a drink from a serving capsule contains the first part of the brewing unit and the second part of the brewing unit, while the second part of the brewing unit is designed to move relative to the specified first part of the brewing unit between the first position of the brewing unit and the second position of the brewing unit. In the second position of the brewing unit part, a brewing chamber is formed, which during the brewing process at least partially surrounds a serving capsule located in the brewing position. The brewing unit is designed to make a brewed drink by admitting a liquid medium for brewing into a serving capsule and releasing the specified brewed drink from the serving capsule. The brewing unit for making brewed drink from a serving capsule also contains a capsule recognition device with an optical sensor for determining the optical characteristics of a serving capsule located in the capsule recognition position, as well as a window element made of transparent material between the capsule recognition position and the optical sensor. The brewing unit also contains a mechanically driven blowing device to create an air flow. The blowing device is designed to create an air flow on the side of the window element in the direction of the recognition position of the capsule when it is activated by the relative movement of the brewing unit’s elements. Relative movement is provided by means of a drive or transmission mechanism.

EFFECT: ability to determine the characteristics of the used serving capsule before the brewing process with the help of the simplest design.
