SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machines for preparation of hot and/or cold beverages from extracted material, for example, coffee contained in a portion capsule. Machine (10) for preparation of beverages for preparation of beverage from a portion capsule by introduction of extracting liquid into a portion capsule comprises body (17), hole (11) for capsule installation, closing unit (1) and closing element (14). Housing (17) has hole (11) for capsule installation, through which portion capsule can be installed in module (5) of capsule recognition. Closing element (14) is part of closing unit (1). It is made with possibility of manual movement between open position, in which hole (11) for capsule installation is accessible, and closed position, in which closing element (14) closes opening (11) for capsule installation. Beverage preparation machine (10) comprises capsule recognition module (5) configured to recognize a portion capsule, installed through the hole for capsule installation and located in the capsule recognition position, based on the pre-determined characteristics. Besides, the beverage preparation machine (10) is configured to automatically start the capsule recognition after closed element (14) adopts the closed position.
