FIELD: polymerization.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for preventing clogging by deposits caused by radical polymerization of unsaturated compounds, in particular vinyl monomers. More specifically, it refers to the use of hindered hydroquinones to inhibit polymerization, which leads to clogging of process equipment with deposits. A method for inhibiting polymerization during processing, transportation, or storage of a hydrocarbon stream containing a hydrocarbon with an unsaturated carbon-carbon bond is described, including bringing the hydrocarbon product into contact with an effective amount of the hydroquinone compound of Formula (2) or Formula (3):
wherein Х1, Х2 and Х3 independently represent -О- or -C(H)(R4)-, and wherein at least one of X1, Х2 and Х3 represents -C(H)(R4)-, Z1, Z2, Z3 and Z4 independently represent -О- or -C(H)(R4)-, and wherein at least two of Z1, Z2, Z3 and Z4 represent -C(H)(R4), R3 are alkyl, aryl, or heterocyclo, R4 independently represents hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, or heterocyclo, and wherein the hydroquinone compound inhibits the polymerization of a hydrocarbon with an unsaturated carbon-carbon bond and a hydrocarbon with an unsaturated carbon-carbon bond including ethylene, propylene, acetylene, styrene, butadiene, or a combination thereof. To increase the effectiveness of polymerization inhibition, hydroquinone compounds can be used in combination with nitroxyl compounds.
EFFECT: technical result is prevention of undesirable polymerization of unsaturated compounds, prevention of clogging with deposits on technological equipment in the form of a contaminant caused by this undesirable polymerization for a variety of technological processes involving hydrocarbons in which vinyl substances are present.
