METHOD FOR IDENTIFYING BRAIN ACTIVATION AREAS LINKING INTEROCEPTION AND EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IN MIDDLE-AGED AND ELDERLY PATIENTS Russian patent published in 2021 - IPC A61B5/55 G16H50/50

Abstract RU 2750837 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, particularly, to neurology, and can be used to identify brain activation areas linking interoception and emotional intelligence. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) of the brain is performed in the T2* mode with a block design. Scanning is therein executed in the process of performing sixteen blocks alternating eight interoceptive blocks - "heartbeat" and eight exteroceptive blocks - "sounds". During each “heartbeat” block therein, the subject focuses the attention on the heart and listens to his/her own heartbeat for the duration of 10 scans. During each “sounds” block, a “beep” signal is sent to the headphones at a frequency equivalent to the heart rate of the subject, and the subject focuses on the sounds for the duration of 10 scans. The obtained 160 scans are then processed in the T2* mode with selection of activation areas corresponding with the "heartbeat" interoceptive block, by calculating the difference in activation between the "heartbeat" interoceptive block and the "sounds" exteroceptive block. The brain activation areas connecting interoception and emotional intelligence are then identified by means of superimposing the maps obtained in the T2* mode with the obtained activation difference on the volumetric reconstruction of the brain obtained in the 3D-T1 mode.

EFFECT: method ensures expansion of the range of technical means for identifying the brain activation areas linking interoception and emotional intelligence, particularly, in extending the available diagnostic capabilities to the category of middle-aged and elderly patients.
