FIELD: fibres.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a reinforcing fibre resistant to environmental exposure and suitable for a composite material. Described is a reinforcing fibre with a coating resistant to environmental exposure and suitable for a fibre-reinforced composite material, comprising: a reinforcing fibre; a coating layer covering the reinforcing fibre and including a rare earth silicate; a peelable layer located at the interface between said coating layer and the reinforcing fibre; and an additional coating layer covering the reinforcing fibre, the peelable layer and said coating layer, wherein the additional coating layer includes silicon carbide, the peelable layer includes a rare earth silicate, wherein the rare earth silicate in the coating layer and the peelable layer constitutes ytterbium silicate, and wherein the reinforcing fibre includes silicon carbide.

EFFECT: increased efficiency of preventing spreading of cracks from the matrix to the reinforcing fibre and increased resistance to oxidation in water vapour.
