FIELD: power engineering.
SUBSTANCE: method for heating a material in a furnace includes the stages wherein: a material containing a carbon-containing substance is heated in a furnace with a chimney using heat generated by burning fuel and a gaseous oxidant supplied to the furnace in the furnace, thereby generating carbon monoxide produced from a carbon-containing substance, wherein a flame is formed in the furnace, able to exit the furnace through the chimney; the concentration of carbon monoxide in the flame is characterized based on images of the flame obtained inside the furnace or outside of the furnace using a digital camera located outside of the furnace, by means of electronic representation of at least one parameter corresponding with the intensity of the flame and corresponding with the concentration of carbon monoxide in the flame, and a characteristic concentration of carbon monoxide in the flame is determined based on preset correlations of the actual concentrations of carbon monoxide in the flame with the presented values of at least one parameter; the characteristic concentration of carbon monoxide in the flame is compared, according to the characteristic in accordance with the described stage, with a predetermined threshold concentration value for said concentration; the amount of oxygen, the amount of fuel, or both the amount of oxygen and the fuel supplied to the furnace, available for reaction in the furnace, are adjusted to an amount or amounts effective for reducing the characteristic concentration of carbon monoxide in the flame to be equal to or less than a predetermined threshold concentration value for a predetermined period of time while continuing to determine the concentration of carbon monoxide in the flame based on the digital camera images of the flame outside of the oven when the characteristic concentration of carbon monoxide in the flame exceeds the predetermined threshold concentration value. Images of the flame exiting the furnace through the chimney are obtained using a digital camera.
EFFECT: invention allows reducing carbon monoxide emission from the furnace.
