FIELD: railways.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the field of upper structure of a railway track, in particular to molds for thermite welding of a metal rail having a surface defect in the head area, as well as to methods for repair of such a rail. The mold contains two similar coquilles. Coquilles can be installed opposite each other at both sides of the rail. The installed coquilles encircle the head, neck and sole of the rail. Each coquille contains an upper hole and an inner cavity. The cavity is limited by walls designed for encircling the head, neck and sole. The cavity contains compressible sealing coating only on the walls encircling the neck, sole and the lower part of the head without the rest part of the head and the lower part of the sole. When repairing the rail, the defect is removed creating a recess on the head of the rail. Coquilles are located at both sides of the rail. The recess is filled with a material for thermite welding.
EFFECT: tight fit of coquilles to the rail is provided.
