FIELD: soil or rock drilling.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to drilling of horizontal wells and relates to communication during drilling. Disclosed is a system for use in horizontal directed drilling, which includes a drill string, which extends from drilling rig to underground equipment, so that elongation and shortening of drill string moves underground equipment through thickness of earth during underground operations. Said system comprises: a transmitter, which includes one or more sensors for measuring one or more operating parameters characterizing the state of underground equipment, wherein such transmitter transmits at two or more frequencies, wherein at least one of said frequencies itself represents multiple data bits, which characterize said state of underground equipment regardless of any modulation of such frequencies; and a portable device, comprising a receiver configured to receive said two or more frequencies, and a processor configured to extract said state of the underground equipment from said two or more frequencies; wherein the receiver is configured to emit a dipole position finding signal, as a depth signal of less than 1.5 kHz, for reception by the portable device at least for use in determining the depth of the underground equipment.

EFFECT: technical result is wider range of equipment when conducting horizontally oriented well.
