FIELD: electrical potential-controlled dimming screens.

SUBSTANCE: some embodiments relate to electrical potential-controlled dimming screens that are used with insulating glass units, insulating glass units including such dimming screens, and/or related methods. In such a glass unit, between the substrates forming the glass unit, a dynamic dimming screen is placed, made with the possibility of moving between the retracted and extended positions. A dynamic dimming screen includes layers applied to glass, including a transparent conductor and an insulating or dielectric film, as well as a shutter. The damper includes a resilient polymer, a conductor, and optional paint. Holes can be made in the polymer that are invisible to the naked eye. These openings can be sized, shaped, and positioned to reflect solar energy in the summer and transmit solar energy in the winter. The conductor can be transparent or opaque. If the conductor is reflective, outer layers can be provided to reduce internal reflection. The polymer can withstand high temperature conditions and, in some cases, can be colored.
