FIELD: biotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: present invention partly relates to biotechnology and discloses a system of blood-brain barrier (hereinafter – BBB) in vitro for evaluating the ability of a candidate agent to penetrate the blood-brain barrier, as well as methods and applications of such a system. BBB includes confluent monolayer of endothelial cells expressing E4ORF1 polypeptide and astrocytes in direct contact with the monolayer of endothelial cells.
EFFECT: present invention makes it possible to obtain BBB-like tissue that has a significantly improved barrier function, namely, increased transendothelial electrical resistance and a reduced permeability coefficient.
