SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the process for obtaining a compound by the formula Ib, wherein nicotine by the formula I-a is provided in form of a mixture of (R)- and (S)-enantiomers, the enantiomers of the compound by the formula I-a are separated by adding chiral O,O'-disubstituted tartaric acid, wherein the chiral O,O'-disubstituted tartaric acid comprises an L-enantiomer; and a compound by the formula I-b is obtained, wherein the O,O'-disubstituted tartaric acid constitutes a mixture of an L-enantiomer and a D-enantiomer.

EFFECT: development of a method for obtaining a compound by the formula I-b whereby nicotine enantiomers are separated with a mixture of an L-enantiomer and a D-enantiomer of O,O'-disubstituted tartaric acid, obtaining a target product with high yield and purity.
