SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to oncology, and can be used to calculate the average life expectancy in patients with unresectable distal cholangiocarcinoma (UDC) complicated by mechanical jaundice. The method includes the calculation of the average life expectancy according to the formula L (months) = (6×A-B+C)×D. The value of the coefficient A: A=1.2 there are no metastases; A=0.8 in the presence of metastases only to the liver; A=0.7 in the presence of metastases to other organs; A=0.6 in the presence of metastases to the liver and other organs. The value of the coefficient B: B=1.0, if the patient has ascites; B=0, if there is no ascites. The value of the coefficient C: C=+1.5, if ECOG is 0; C=+1.2, if ECOG is 1; C=0, if ECOG is 2; C=-1.2, if ECOG is 3; C=-1.5, if ECOG is 4. The value of the coefficient D: D=1.5, if the patient is scheduled for chemotherapy; D=0.5, if chemotherapy is not planned. If L<4, a plastic stent is used for biliary decompression, if L>4, a self-expanding metal stent is used for biliary decompression.

EFFECT: use of the invention makes it possible to calculate the average life expectancy for UDC complicated by mechanical jaundice, and to personalize the choice of a stent for decompression of the biliary tract.
