FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to oncology, and can be used for selecting an optimal version of biliary decompression in patients with unresectable portal cholangiocarcinoma. Following prognostic factors are used in the calculation: presence of metastasis, tumour size, age, Ca 19-9, Karnofsky index. Revealed prognostic factors are assessed in accordance with table 1 contained in the description, and the life expectancy in months is determined. If life expectancy is less than 3 months, plastic stent is used for biliary decompression; if life expectancy is more than 3 months, the method of choice is to use a self-expanding metal stent.

EFFECT: method enables personalizing the stent selection for biliary tract decompression and preparing the patient for polychemotherapy by assessing the set of the most significant parameters.
