FIELD: gemstones sorting.
SUBSTANCE: apparatus and a method for sorting gemstones from a batch of gemstones are proposed. The apparatus contains one or more measurement points, each of which contains at least one measurement device configured to measure one or more properties of a gemstone. The continuously moving shifting surface holds the gems and transports the gems to one or more measurement points. The separating device separates the gemstones from each other during their transportation on the specified moving surface to one or more measurement points. A location trigger located at a sensor location comprises a sensor for identifying when a gemstone has passed through the sensor location. The controller receives the signal from the location trigger, registers the position of the movable surface upon receiving the signal, and tracks the subsequent location of the gem by monitoring the movement of the movable surface so that the measurement of one or more properties of each gem can correlate with the location of the corresponding gem on the specified movable surface. Certain markers of its luminescent properties can be used to identify the properties of a gemstone.
EFFECT: invention speeds up the orientation and testing process by eliminating the need to stop the disc rotation every time a correctly oriented stone is ready to be gripped by a vacuum gripper.
