SUBSTANCE: use of bacteria of the Faecalibacterium prausnitzii strain and the Desulfovibrio piger bacterial strain for the treatment or prevention of a disease related to a reduced or low number of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii bacteria is proposed. The use of the Desulfovibrio piger strain in the treatment or prevention of a disease related to reduced butyrate levels is proposed, where the specified Desulfovibrio piger strain has one or more of the characteristics: (i) acetate production, (ii) lactate consumption and (iii) the possibility to be an electron acceptor, and where the specified Desulfovibrio piger strain increases the butyrate production in the gastrointestinal tract through the synergistic action of Desulfovibrio piger and Faecalibacterium prausnitzii strains. A composition for the treatment or prevention of a disease related to reduced butyrate levels, or a disease related to a reduced or low number of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii bacteria, including the Faecalibacterium prausnitzii strain and the Desulfovibrio piger bacterial strain and a set, containing Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and Desulfovibrio piger, is also proposed.

EFFECT: group of inventions allows increasing the growth and colonization of bacteria of the Faecalibacterium prausnitzii strain.
