FIELD: bentonite clay modification.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for modifying bentonite clay using an organic reagent that improves the physico-chemical properties (increase in hydrophilicity, colloidality and specific surface area of the material), increasing its ability to swell, improving binding properties and adsorption capacity. A method for producing organomodified bentonite is described: quarry bentonite clay with a moisture content of no more than 6.5 (weight percentage) and an average particle size of no more than 1 mm is sequentially treated with sodium carbonate at room temperature in the following ratio of components, weight percentage: bentonite : sodium carbonate 65-70:20-25, the rest is water; the resulting clay powder after drying for 6 hours at a temperature of 110°C is mixed with crystalline aminoacetic acid in the following ratio of components, weight percentage: bentonite : aminoacetic acid 50-53:5.0-5.5, the rest is water; it is kept at room temperature for 24 hours, dried for 4 hours at a temperature of 70°C.

EFFECT: development of a method for producing a powdered hydrophilic material based on bentonite clay, which, while maintaining high activity with respect to water, will have a large specific surface area and an embedded organic component in its structure.
