FIELD: electrical power engineering.
SUBSTANCE: apparatus is comprised of an electric power source, a storage capacitor, a switch controlled by a reconfigurable generator, and at least one sensor. The measuring element of the sensor constitutes a capacitor. The capacitor plates are made in the form of two conductors arranged in parallel in one plane along the controlled power transmission line wire. The distance from the conductors to the controlled wire is 4 to 10 mm. The conductors are attached on the wire by means of dielectric fastening elements. The measuring element of the sensor is alternately connected with the electric power source and the storage capacitor. When the charging time of the storage capacitor becomes greater than the setting due to the presence of ice deposition, an alarm signal is formed.
EFFECT: increase in the accuracy of determining the presence and thickness of ice deposition on overhead power transmission line wires.
