FIELD: print design.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to print design and can be used for making engravings on metal for reproduction of an artist's drawings by the letterpress method. A method for making an engraving on a metal includes reproducing an artist's drawing on the surface of a metal board having an electrode potential that is more negative than the electrode potential of copper, depositing a protective layer of copper or its alloy on the surface of the metal board, removing an artist's drawing, deepening the exposed metal by etching in a solution, not etching the protective layer, removing the protective layer, while according to the invention the protective layer is deposited on the surface of the metal board before reproducing the artist's drawing, and after the artist's drawing is completed, the protective layer is removed by etching from the surface of the metal board, free from the artist's drawing.
EFFECT: invention provides reduction in labor intensity and the possibility of making engravings on a galvanized steel board.
