SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the field of building, namely to laboratory soil testing, and can be used to determine the strength characteristics of frozen soils and soil solutions. The method for preparing samples with a cement and sand solution for determining the shear resistance over the surface of adfreezing with the foundation and on the soil includes filling a mould for a cutting apparatus with a cement and sand solution, foundation material or soil, cooling the obtained samples to a predetermined temperature, sealing and storing prior to the beginning of testing. The samples are therein cooled under time-varying temperature conditions according to a predetermined temperature regime determined by solving a heat engineering problem or by experiment, by transferring an amount of cold limited to the required value to the samples in different time periods of freezing/hardening thereof. Also disclosed is an apparatus for implementation of the above method.

EFFECT: increase in the accuracy and reliability of determination is achieved due to creation of freezing/hardening conditions for the cement and sand solution identical to the natural conditions during preparation of testing samples.
