METHOD FOR ASSESSING THE SECRET FUNCTION OF SMALL SALIVARY GLANDS Russian patent published in 2021 - IPC A61B1/24 A61C13/00 A61K31/4178 A61K6/65 A61P1/02

Abstract RU 2756133 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to dentistry. The study is carried out 3 times in different visits with a frequency of once a week for three weeks. The study is carried out in the morning on an empty stomach, without preliminary brushing the teeth, smoking, rinsing the mouth with water. Stimulation of salivation is carried out 30 minutes before the study. The patient takes 8 drops of a 1% solution of pilocarpine hydrochloride orally. After 30 minutes, the mucous membrane of the lower lip is removed, isolated and dried with sterile gauze wipes. A sterile 2 x 2 cm frame made of nickel-titanium wire 1 mm in diameter is applied to the mucous membrane of the lower lip. A 2% solution of methylene blue is applied with a sterile cotton ball and the mucous membrane of the lower lip, bounded by a frame, is stained to the inner borders of the frame. The frame is removed. After 20 minutes, photographs are taken with a digital camera with a macro function. The digital image counts the number of drops of saliva secreted by the small salivary glands (SSG) within the colored mucosa. The average individual number of functioning SSG is calculated.

EFFECT: method provides objectivity and accuracy of xerostomia diagnosis, increases information content of examination, makes it possible to store research results on electronic media, in patient's electronic medical record, allows tracking changes in the number of functioning small salivary glands in dynamics during therapy, using examination data in retrospective studies.
