FIELD: power engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the power and electrochemical industries and can be applied in production of hydrogen-air fuel cells with membrane-electrode units based on proton-exchange membranes. The fuel cell battery includes two end plates with areas for tightening elements, one monopolar and no less than two bipolar plates with membrane-electrode units, wherein the areas for tightening elements constitute longitudinal (and transverse) recesses along the edges of one of the planes of each end plate. The parameters are optimised, in particular, by increasing the active area of the bipolar plates by creating a certain (preferred) configuration of flow channels for the oxidising gas, as well as by using a certain system for assembling (tightening) the battery.
EFFECT: optimisation of the parameters of the apparatus due to the reduction in the overall dimensions thereof with the maintained specific power (per unit volume and weight of the apparatus) and operational characteristics thereof.
